The XVI DBMC is committed to the promotion of scientific insight and technological innovation in the fields of civil engineering to help the sustainability of our society. To this purpose, the focus of this conference is put on the sustainability and the related concepts, methods and techniques from civil engineering community.
The main themes of this DBMC edition include, but not limited to, the innovative materials, the long-term performance and durability, the climate change and resilience, the intelligent planning and design in construction, and the life cycle engineering. The innovative materials involve the high performance, eco-green, multi-functional and smart materials. The long-term performance and durability comprise the actions and mechanisms, the testing and modeling, the design and assessment, the practice and specifications, and the historical heritages and monuments. The climate change and resilience include the climate loads, building resilience, urban heat island effects, overheating, nature- based solutions and green roofs. The intelligent construction refers to the construction automation and robotics (including 3D printing), and the numerical infrastructure and intelligent design. The life cycle engineering covers the life cycle costing and methods, the recycling of wastes, and the carbon reduction and neutralization. In addition, special talks will be arranged for the ongoing or recent mega-projects in China and abroad.

The DBMC student competition is open for submission. The theme of competition is the smart solutions to the sustainability in the building industry. The competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students registered in high education institutions. The participants should organize themselves into a team with one team leader appointed. Diversifying the geographical representation in the team will be much appreciated.
The team will refer to the student competition guideline to finish their proposal of works, using the project proposal form. Then, the team is to return this proposal back to the secretariat of XVI DBMC through e-mail (dbmc2023@mail.tsinghua.edu.cn) by June 30, 2023. Once accepted, the team will receive a formal message from the XVI DBMC secretariat. The team will finish their proposed works before the XVI DBMC and prepare the presentation of their finished works. The XVI DBMC will arrange a special session for student competition. All competition teams will exhibit their finished works and the works will be judged by all the visiting delegates. All the exhibiting teams will receive competition certificates and the most praised teams will receive additionally prizes for DBMC student competition. Also, all exhibiting teams are invited for the technical visit (cultural event).

The interested parties should inform the XVI DBMC secretariat (dbmc2023@mail.tsinghua.edu.cn) at the latest by August 31, 2023. Bidding parties will be requested to present their proposal orally during the meeting of DBMC steering committee, on October 11, 2023, during the XVI DBMC event at the conference venue.
